There are 5 beliefs that I bring to every birth
I believe that birth is not a medical event, but a natural part of life.
I believe a woman in labor will make the best decisions for her, and her decisions are to be respected.
I believe every mother should be honored during the birth of her baby, no matter how she came to be one.
I believe that a good mother need not be a certain age, sexual orientation, or income level.
I believe that you can never have too much support
I have always loved pregnant women and babies. In the mid 90's I worked in several
clinics in North Hollywood, CA as a medical assistant and saw women treated without respect
based only on their income or literacy level. In the late 90's, I left the medical field to pursue
a career in Legal Assisting.
In January 2003, I gave birth to my son. This was a profound experience for me, not only because
I had a child, but because the birth and the period immediately afterward. Despite the fact that
I considered myself to be very educated (I had gone to all the classes and spoken frequently
with my OB GYN), I felt overwhelmed and unprepared during the birth and immediately afterward.
I remember wishing that I had someone I could talk to who could give me information and support.
A decade after first encountering the challenges pregnant women face, I decided to do something
about what I had seen in the clinics and with my own birth experience, so I trained with
Birth Arts International and became a Doula.
Now I work to create a place of safety and calm during birth and give every mother the birth
she deserves.
I live in Aloha Oregon with my husband, son, our Pembroke Welsh Corgi and assorted Koi fish.
