Services and Fees Because of the recent economic downturn and our personal philosophy about each woman having the opportunity to have a doula, Dragonfly Doulas works on a sliding scale basis. Birth Doula Services (Includes Childbirth Education and 1 postpartum visit) Consultation (free) A Doula will meet and chat with you to decide if she is a good fit for you, as well as what services she can (and can't) provide for you and your family. This is also the time when she will discuss fees with you.
Prenatal Visits(2): She will talk about what your plans are for the birth, what type of birth you would like (hospital, natural birth, medicated birth, birth center, home birth, VBAC, cesarean section, water birth...etc.) and what your hopes are for this birth. She will also talk about your support team and who you would like to attend the birth. She can also attend a prenatal visit with your doctor, midwife or other health care provider before the birth and discuss their expectations for the birth, as well as go over any medical tests that you may or may not want to have performed. She will explain any procedures or events that may occur during labor, and (if a hospital birth) the tests that are routinely performed on infants and what your rights are regarding them. She is also available by phone any time (even in the middle of the night!) during your pregnancy.
Support: Unlimited phone and e-mail support from the time you sign the contract until the last post-partum visit. There are no stupid questions.
Labor: For the two weeks prior to your due date up until the birth of your child, she is available to you 24 hours per day. Upon your call, she will be able to meet you within 1.5 hours at all times. In the unforeseen event that your Doula is unable to meet with you, her backup or apprentice will meet with you and assist you until she can arrive. During your labor she will be with you from the time you call until approximately one hour after the birth of your child for a normal, healthy delivery. If there are complications, we will stay with you until the situation is stable.
Postpartum: After the delivery, she is available 24 hours per day for phone and e-mail support, including breastfeeding support. After you get home from the hospital, we will visit you to make sure that your needs are met and that all your questions are answered.
You may be attended by an experienced Doula, a Doula and her mentor, or by a Doula working towards her certification. We do not send Doulas who have not attended births without a mentor.
